South Baldwin Regional Medical Center’s Family Medicine is a fully accredited program sponsored by Health Education Services (HES, ACGME ID: 470075). The following are the expected benefits for all residents trained by Health Education Services at South Baldwin Regional Medical Center during the 2023-2024 academic year. The benefits summary is updated annually and may be subject to change. If changes occur, residents will be notified by the program coordinator or program director.
Also known as the “base stipend,” this is the annual salary paid monthly that the program provides residents to offset living expenses while training:
Those selected to become a Chief Resident in their PGY3 are provided an additional $3,000 stipend annually with 50% distributed as a lump sum in July and the remaining 50% distributed in January.
Residents are eligible to participate in programs which provide medical, dental and vision care effective the first day residents are required to report and continues during any approved sick, parental/caregiver, bereavement, jury duty and one-time medical leave of absence as long as benefit premiums are satisfied. Each benefit option may be elected independently. Dependent coverage is also available.
While South Baldwin Regional Medical Center pays for most of the cost of this coverage, residents are required to contribute a portion of the cost of coverage elected on a bi-weekly pre-tax basis.
In addition to the $1,000 educational stipends, the cost of Alabama State training/temporary licensure, medical society dues, and educational subscriptions totaling up to an additional $1,000 is provided to each resident annually. Advanced approval by the program director for some items are required for reimbursement.
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a voluntary work-based program offering free and confidential assessments, short-term counseling, referrals and follow-up services to employees who have personal and/or work related problems.
South Baldwin Regional Medical Center provides residents with professional liability insurance to cover the residents while acting in the performance of their duties and assignments within the training program (moonlighting activities are not covered).
