Our Program

Academics

South Baldwin Regional Medical Center (SBRMC) serves as the home base for our program with over 90% of resident rotations taking place on or near the SBRMC campus in Foley. The Family Medicine Residency Practice clinic is one block north of the hospital and serves as the hub for outpatient training and didactics. We have two classrooms in the residency clinic, the primary one comfortably accommodates 40 people and the second one is smaller with more space set up for hands-on and simulation training. Both conference rooms have video teleconference capabilities and white boards or smart boards.

We provide lunch for daily didactic sessions in our larger classroom. Our didactic curriculum has a strong focus on evidence based medicine with our topics weighted to mimic the blueprint on the American Board of Family Medicine board certification exam. We are also an active member of the Family Physicians Inquiries Network, (FPIN) facilitating our scholarly process with over ten peer reviewed publications annually in journals such as American Family Physician, The Journal of Family Practice, and Evidence Based Practice. We are proud to be the only non-university affiliated community residency program in the country writing for the FPIN project, “Priority Updates from the Research Literature” (PURLs). In addition to the standard didactic curriculum, we also regularly participate in journal club, morbidity and mortality reviews, tumor board, grand rounds, program director meetings and chief meetings.
